CHAMPIONS. BUILT.

Our mission at Franco Athletic & Sports Training is to enhance the lives of others through fitness. We will provide superior training to improve sports performance for athletes and fitness for adults.

In 2007, Franco Athletic & Sports Training (FAST) began working with local athletes between the ages of 8-18 years, aiding in their sports performance goals. FAST provides professional quality sport performance training to athletes of all ages and skill levels so they have the opportunity to excel in their chosen sports and to stay active in the sports they love.

Our Philosophy of training for optimal sports performance is centered around helping athletes in every sport, at all ages and all skill levels, have the opportunity to improve speed, agility, mobility and flexibility, strength and power development.  We achieve all of this while at the same time reducing the risk of sports-related injuries. Our proven training and professional equipment allow kids and active adults the opportunity to train like the pros.

SPORTS PERFORMANCE

Athletes sometimes work better one-on-one. We can develop a program with maximum individual attention. Athletes may choose to combine a small group instruction program with private training.

INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION

SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION

By working together in a group, athletes tap into the camaraderie and competitiveness that drives results. The groups are small enough to maintain individual attention so that progress of each athlete can be tracked closely.

TEAM INSTRUCTION

FAST can work with your team to improve overall speed, power, agility, strength and conditioning. With improvements in all sports-related movements, your team will become more athletic and less prone to injury.

THREE STAGE PROGRAM

Franco Athletic & Sports Training along with Portland Oregon Weightlifting (POW) have designed a 3-stage program which allows each athlete to move at an appropriate pace for their own learning. As they progress through each level, the intensity begins to increase and this is where strength and power are developed.

OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

Why are Olympic weightlifting movements superior when it comes to sports performance and fitness training? Here a just a few reasons why...

MUSCLE FIBER RECRUITMENT

Olympic weightlifting involves basically every muscle in the human body and this not only leads to a great workout but also teaches the body to fire all the muscle fibers at once. Neuromuscular recruitment patterns are just as important to athletic development as they are to everyday activities.

STRENGTH, POWER AND MOVEMENT COORDINATION

Efficient and coordinated movement patterns will provide increased performance in athletic movements such as sprinting, jumping, and change of direction skills.  Studies were conducted comparing various Olympic lifts (high pulls, power clean, and clean and jerk) to groups using vertical jump exercises (single and double leg hurdles hops, alternated single-leg hurdle hops, etc) for 8 week training cycles. While vertical jump exercises are important to sports performance conditioning, conclusions showed the Olympic weightlifting groups had significantly increased their 10 meter sprint speed and their standing jump over the groups using standard vertical jump exercises.  The strength and power gained from proper utilization of the Olympic lifts are unmatched when it comes to sports performance.

INJURY PREVENTION AND SAFETY

When you execute the Olympic lifts correctly, you will greatly reduce the chance of injury either in sport or in your recreational activities. Olympic lifting can be an excellent learning tool to help you improve your flexibility as well. Upper and lower body mobility and stability improve because of the demand for full ranges of motion at the joints. Full ranges of motion coupled with movement efficient mechanics lead to reductions in sports-related injuries (muscle pulls, strains, tendon and ligament damage, etc).  Olympic lifting has also been shown to help prevent Osteoporosis and increase bone mineral density. The high overloads of stress from Olympic weightlifting allow for calcium to be added more frequently to the bones which make them more resistant to fractures.

ENJOYMENT

There are many reasons as to why people enjoy Olympic weightlifting. One reason could be the feeling you get when you just made a personal best lift. The adrenaline rush you get when you step up to the barbell and you move it effortlessly and the quickness you display to get underneath the bar are what keeps individuals wanting more. It may also be just the mastery and technical aspect of the lifts you enjoy. There is a certain satisfaction you get when you crack the code of how to coordinate each movement and position that is required to make a successful lift. Once you crack that code, the sky is the limit to what you may achieve in the sport!

For new and beginning lifters to the program.  This program begins to dissect the proper movement patterns and positions necessary to achieve a SAFE and successful lift.  Every member must complete the Level 1 program to advance to the Level 2 program.

LEVEL 1 PROGRAM

For lifters ready to take the next step with their training program.  Athletes must demonstrate adequate knowledge of proper movement positions and terminology.  This program starts to increase in intensity and begins to put more focus on the complete Olympic weightlifting movements.  Athletes must complete the Level 2 program to advance to the Level 3 program.

LEVEL 2 PROGRAM

Designed for advanced lifters.  The focus is primarily on the complete Olympic weightlifting movements and core lifts which will help increase their lifting totals.  Athletes also demonstrate advanced knowledge of proper training technique and movement positions.  In this program, the lifting intensity is at its highest, so prepare to be sore!

A Tualatin, OR native, Jordan graduated from Southern Oregon University in 2005 with a degree in Health Promotion/Fitness Management.  He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Physical Preparation Specialist (CPPS) and a USA Weightlifting (USAW) Olympic Weightlifting Coach.  While attending Southern Oregon University, Jordan was a 2-year starter as an inside linebacker that helped guide the Raiders to back-to-back quarter final appearances in 2001 & 2002.

In 2005, Jordan founded Portland Oregon Weightlifting (POW), an Olympic-style weightlifting club. The goal was to not only help develop strong athletes, but also enhance people’s lives through the lifts.  Olympic-style weightlifting teaches you how to confront a struggle, adapt, and overcome. His passion and understanding of the Olympic lifts have helped develop Portland Oregon Weightlifting into one of the longest tenured Olympic Weightlifting focused clubs in Oregon, as well as boasting the largest competitive youth team in the state.

Jordan has been training and coaching athletes at all levels of sport in the Portland area since 2005.  His resume ranges from local youth stars to collegiate and professional athletes. He also is currently a Tualatin high school varsity football defensive assistant coach, working primarily with outside linebackers and safeties.  Jordan and his wife Megan have 4 kids (3 boys and a girl).

Coach Missy has a lifestyle that has always been on the go and packed from sunrise to sunset. She thrives in an environment full of positivity, fun, and some good competition – which is why she loves Olympic Weightlifting and CrossFit. Missy lives in Tigard with her 2 boys, Elija and Memphis – both competitive athletes in wrestling and olympic weightlifting. Her youngest son Memphis – born in 2002, has been a member of our youth olympic weightlifting team since the age of 6. Missy has been part of the coaching staff for our 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Youth National Team lifters. Her experience also includes adaptive athlete coaching for those with special needs – she has a real knack for connecting with individuals and give them an uplifting experience, which helps with behavioral development, confidence, and personal growth. Her passion is to share her knowledge for everyone, no matter what age, shape, size, or athletic ability to live a long, healthy, happy life.
